Two weeks ago I succumbed to the end of summer. Then, something happened. I remembered we still had a watermelon, and summer isn't really over until the last watermelon has been consumed.
I am very ready to move on into autumn. Boots, mulled wine, fire pits. I'm ready.
But first, I had to make a watermelon cocktail, so do it I did. A watermelon and rosemary martini.

If you haven't noticed, I much prefer simple cocktails. I don't like them sweet; I like for the ingredients to speak for themselves, and I rarely use a mixer that isn't fresh. I like simple combinations of liquor, fruit, and herbs, with just a touch of sweet to combine the flavors.
(This is a lot coming from a girl who used to down Mountain Dew and vodka like it was water. But that's a story I will never share here.)
This Melonmary Martini is just that: the perfect cocktail for me. It's easy to prep, easy to drink. And easy on the eyes.
Watermelon and rosemary are unlikely friends, but they work so well together.
A final toast, my friends: to the end of summer.
Several chunks of watermelon (about 1 cup or so)
Fresh rosemary
Agave Nectar
Vodka
Combine watermelon, rosemary, and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker. Muddle.
Pour in a double-shot of vodka (I put a bit more, but telling you to do so feels irresponsible of me, do what you want) and put in a couple of ice cubes. Shake vigorously.
Strain into a martini glass, giving it a couple of good shakes to get the liquid past the watermelon mush. Garnish with a rosemary sprig.
