For the past week or so (ok, a little over a week) I've been on a design hiatus and mini vacation. I tried my best not to answer emails or think about branding schemes or obsess over my to-do list that is now almost unbearably long. The first couple of days were spent around the house doing some things here, but we soon packed ourselves up and headed to the place that was once our home.
David and I grew up in Florence, and that was where Lily was born. The house above is where we lived for the 2 1/2 years before we moved to the mountains, and it's the house we brought Lily home to. It's an utterly charming 1920s Tudor-revival-style cottage nestled on the corner of a historic district in downtown Florence, right across the street from the university.

Take away the poorly-placed power lines and we had ourselves wonderful view of the "castle". The larger castle-y building you see is an annex, and not very old. I'd say less than 30 years. But the one that sticks up behind the building on the right is quite old. That's where David and I spend the last 2 years of our life in Florence, as it's home to the Geography Department. It's old, and gorgeous, and supposedly haunted. And we had a view from our front porch.
David and I quite liked our life there. Just on the other side of the university was downtown, where we walked to on countless occasions, pushing Lily along in her stroller, to eat or shop or check out one of the many festivals.
I say all this to express my love for the life we had there, but to also tell how after visiting "home" and our parents and friends and our old hang outs, by the end of our trip, I was ready to come home. Our new home. In the mountains.
David and I have talked several times about how our new mountain home seems to fit us unusually well, and after our short vacation back to Florence, I grew to realize just how true it is. This has become our home so quickly, and I love it.
Not to mention the fact that temperatures topped at about 111 degrees one day while we were riding around downtown, and right now it's 68 degrees here in the mountains. Cheese and rice.
So, I'm home. Now back to work.
