This weekend was a mini vacation for David and I, as we left Bug at home with my ma and traveled north to Virginia for the wedding of two of our besties: Brent and Lauren.

We have known Brent and Lauren for quite a long while. David went to elementary school with Lauren, I went to middle school with Lauren (I have passed notes from 7th grade math class to prove it), and then all three of us went to high school together. After high school we lost touch with Lauren, but met Brent.

Brent was a loud-mouth geographer who I occasionally wanted to throw sharpened pencils at during our first class or two together. It wasn't until he and David got in a class together and they were both elected for department officers - president and vice-president - that I learned that I wanted to throw more substantial things than mere pencils at Brent. But, it was a love/hate relationship that still has us poking our tongues out at each other no matter where we are - even at his wedding reception with us both in formal get-up.

It was about a year or more after we started hanging out with Brent - which consisted of late nights of bonfires, lots of food, and even way more wine - that he asked if he could bring his new fling to dinner. I tend not to culminate too many female relationships, so I was hesitant, but when he told me it was Lauren, who had just joined the geography department, I was stoked. Super, super stoked.

I hadn't spent any time with Lauren since high school, but that night at dinner it was as if there had been mere days since we had spoken, let alone years. And the rest, as they say, is history. And as of Saturday, they're now married. Silly geese.

Our wedding present to them was that honking massive bottle of wine. Augusta Winery Norton is our favorite wine. To all four of us. It's is our holy grail of wine, with the '04 Reserve de Patron being the supreme of supreme. However, all '04s are extinct, unless Augusta is holding out on us, so we've ordered and shared lots of bottles of '05 vintage. This, however - this massive bottle (a double magnum, a.k.a. Jeroboam, which is equivalent to 4 regular bottles of wine) - is an '03 vintage, which none of us have tried. Needless to say, not only are these guys silly geese, but we made them super damn lucky geese.

This weekend was a blast. David and I were so honored to be asked to be a part of the festivities, and the whole group was simply fantastic. I'll be sleeping this one off for quite a while.
